To all junior coaches and
junior stakeholders:
RE: National Junior
Director position.
Letter from Reg Gabriel, the
current CUPA Junior Director and National Junior Director:
While I have briefly held
both positions of CJD and NJD, I feel strongly that the two
positions must be held by two separate people and that the positions
be distinct. Together, both Directors will give junior players and
coaches a stronger voice on the National scene.
The NJD position is separate
from the position of the CJD in that the CJD sits on the board and
has voting privileges; The NJD is directly connected to the detailed
running of the National junior scene. Nevertheless, the spirit of
the two junior positions is that the NJD and the CJD work in tandem
on issues in the junior scene.
Submissions – a one-page
maximum single-spaced letter of application addressed to the CUPA
board members. Please state why you would be a great fit for the
position. Share any relevant ultimate playing and coaching
experience as well as skills developed over the years that would be
a benefit to you as the NJD. Applications will be received until
Oct 21, 2007.
The National Junior
Director’s responsibilities include:
1)
Chair the annual junior coaches’ meeting – this has recently
taken place on the Friday or Saturday night of Nationals.
2)
Collect player conduct forms and coaching conduct forms for
each Nationals.
3)
Coordinate the coach and player selection for the World
Junior Championships every two years. This also includes
coordinating the running of Player Identification Camps in Eastern
and Western Canada (and possibly Central Canada).
4)
Provide the CUPA board with an anticipated budget for each
WJC.
5)
Maintain communication with the CJD throughout the year so
that junior issues are on the table and under discussion.
6)
Maintain communication with juniors coaches throughout the
country with an ear to juniors issues.
7)
Work with the CJD with the focus of continuously improving
the structure, the organization, and the competitiveness of Canadian
junior ultimate players on the local, regional, national, and
international levels.
8)
Help resolve disputes or concerns about issues such as
seedings and schedules
Presently there is no term limit to this position so there is a
wonderful opportunity for the NJD to have a significant impact on
the future of junior ultimate in Canada.
Sincerely,
Reginald Gabriel
