Introduction
The WFDF 2006 World Ultimate Junior Championships
(WJUC) will be held in Boston, MA, August 13 to 18.
It is CUPA's intention to send one National team
for each of the two Junior divisions (Junior Open and Junior Women).
In order to do so, coaches, chaperones and players must be chosen
in the near future. So, this note is intended to be informational,
as well as notification that space on the team rosters is now up
for application.
Each team will require one head coach and an assistant
coach (or second chaperone). Ideally, the teams will each include
15 to 18 players.

Coaching applications due: Feb 10, 2006
Player applications due: Feb 17, 2006

Coaches and Chaperones
Coaches and chaperones must be at least 25 years
old, have experience supervising and traveling with teenagers, and
provide proof of a high degree reliability and responsibility.
The head coach will be responsible for organizing
return travel to Boston from the CJUC 2006 host city after CJUC2006
and accommodations for the entire team, and collection of fees from
players. He/She will also run a five day training camp in the CJUC
2006 host city, immediately prior to leaving for Boston. During
tournament play, the head coach will be directly responsible for
the team and its play.
The assistant coach (or second chaperone) will
be responsible for assisting the head coach in the above responsibilities,
as well as acquiring team uniforms.
All coaches and chaperones will be directly responsible
for the conduct of their respective teams and the safety of their
players. It is expected that the coaches and chaperones will adhere
to all regulations stated in the Coach and Chaperone Conduct Policy
2006 (this is a new document as of Jan, 2006). A signed policy must
received by the Canadian Junior Ultimate Coordinator before selected
coaches and chaperones may begin their responsibilities. Coaches
and chaperones are also expected to ensure that their players adhere
to the regulations stated on the Junior Player Conduct Policy 2006.
Coaches and chaperones become responsible for the players as soon
as players gathered in the CJUC host City for training camp.
Costs and expenses for coaches and chaperones
are still to be determined, but it is the intent of CUPA that coaches
and chaperones travel for free or as close to free as possible from
the CJUC2006 host city to Boston and back (unless a coach or chaperone)
is not attending CJUC 2006 and he / she would be flown to the CJUC
host city to meet up with the players. ***A
decision regarding financial support has not be made yet. ***
** Please read the section Selection of
Junior Players BEGINS IMMEDIATELY for information on National team
player identification camps.

Selection of Coaches / chaperones
BEGINS IMMEDIATELY
Those interested in being a coach or chaperone
for one of Canada’s Junior teams at WJUC 2006 are asked to
submit both forms:
to the National Junior Director no later than Friday,
February 10, 2006. The CUPA Junior Coaching Form 2006 application
requests such information as volunteer disclosure, a personal bio,
the applicant's experience as a coach, experience as a chaperon
or supervisor of minors, personal and team expectations and goals,
which team you are applying for.
On Saturday, February 11, 2006, all applications
will be forwarded to the CUPA Board of Directors. Board members
and the Canadian Junior Ultimate Coordinator will be responsible
for choosing the coaches and chaperones. If a member of the selection
committee chooses to apply for a position as coach or chaperon,
that member will immediately be removed from the selection committee
and will not be privy to any information received by selection committee
members.
Coaches will be selected no later than
Feb 15, 2006.

Junior Players
Players will be selected for a National Junior
Open team and a National Junior Women's team. To be eligible as
a team member, players must not turn 20 years of age in 2006, or
said another way, must have been born in 1987 or later.
All players will be expected to attend a five
day training camp in CJUC host city immediately following CJUC 2006
and before leaving for Boston. Players will travel to Boston from
the CJUC host city with the team, under the responsibility of the
coaches and chaperones. All players are expected to adhere to the
regulations stated in the Junior Player Conduct Policy 2006, regardless
of the players' ages. The Canadian Junior Coordinator must receive
a signed policy before a player is officially considered a team
member.
Fees for each player will be relatively inexpensive
considering that Worlds is in Boston this year. The plan is to either
bus or fly to Boston and there are advantages for both. The head
coaches will decide which mode of transportation suites their teams.
Players will be responsible for getting themselves to (and from)
the CJUC host city. The final fee will include tournament fees,
accommodations, meals, and transport to the fields each day. Coaches
will do their best to ensure the trip is an inexpensive as possible
without risking safety. Coaches will communicate anticipated expenses
as soon as possible
It is hoped that some of these expenses might be
covered through fundraising efforts. Players that cannot attend
without some sort of subsidy should indicate that fact on their
application.

Selection of Players BEGINS IMMEDIATELY
**We are still accepting applications.**
Those interested in being a player for one of Canada’s Junior
teams at WJUC 2006 are asked to submit both forms:
On Saturday February 18, 2006, all applications
will be forwarded to the members of the selection committee. The
selection committee will be chosen by the CUPA Board of Directors
and must include the coaches of each team and the National Junior
Director.
As part of the application, players must include
a letter of nomination from a coach (or adult familiar with the
player's abilities). The letter of nomination must indicate the
level of play at which the player is able to perform, the player's
experience, leadership skills, level of responsibility, self-control,
reliability and sportsmanship, ability to play as a member of an
elite team of athletes, and respect for rules of conduct. Nominators
must provide a contact phone number and email address. A photocopy
of the applicant's birth certificate must also accompany the application.
It is highly recommended that all interested
players must attend one of the National team player identification
camps, if these are happening. The camps will be held in BC, Ontario,
and possibly Winnipeg. These will be serious opportunities to “show
your stuff” and if you are a younger player, you may be able
to impress the coaches now before your time to play for Canada comes
up two years from now!! Players who do not attend these camps can
still make one of the National teams – your application, your
coaches, and your reference will have to reveal your strengths and
abilities as an Ultimate player. There will be a nominal fee for
these identification camps. ***A
decision regarding identification camps tournament has not be made
yet. ***
There will be more information posted soon regarding
these identification camps, so hold tight!
(if there are no camps run by the actual National team coaches (and
supported by local coaches who want to be involved), then regions
can still hold tryout camps for sport development, player awareness,
and player identification for their region, passing this information
on to the National Junior Director who will packing it up and send
it to the Head coaches of the two teams.
It is expected that all applicants will be informed
of their status with the team no later than Sunday March 31, 2006,
if not earlier.

Mandate of Selection Committees
The mandate of the selection committees, as stated
by the Canadian Ultimate Players Association, is to select coaches
and players who will best represent Canada at the World Ultimate
Championships in Boston, Massachusetts in 2006. The team will be
selected with the intention of assembling the most competitive team
possible. At the same time, Spirit of the Game, responsibility,
personal conduct and self-control will be taken into serious consideration.
It is expected that all members of the Canadian National teams will
represent Canada positively and proudly.
Decisions will be made from information provided
by applicants, referees and references. The selection committee
reserves the right to interview any party they feel would be able
to provide further information about specific applicants (coaches,
chaperones and players).
