The survey will be available for 30 days. Afterwards, the results will be tabulated and made available on the web site. The information will be used to influence the re-organization of tournaments and to allow our members to give us feedback.

 SPOTLIGHT: MORGAN HIBBERT

Morgan Hibbert hails from Vancouver. He was a member of the silver-lined Team Canada Mixed who participated at the WFDF World Ultimate & Guts Championships in Finland in August. Morgan's local competitive team, Team Fisher Price, won the CUC Mixed Division Championship just weeks after he returned from Finland. Most recently, Morgan's University team (UBC) placed second at CUUC 2004 in the Open Division.

1) How tall are you?

MH: 6'3"

2) How long have you been playing Ultimate?

MH: I have been playing for almost 6 years now. I started playing with my high school team. Originally, I did not want to play because I was more into soccer, but a friend kept pressuring me to come out, telling me about this new sport which was a blast to play. Eventually I decided to appease him and show up to 1 practice to try this bizarre "frisbee" game. After the first practice I was hooked, and I have tried to play as much Ultimate as possible since then.

3) What is your favourite tournament?

MH: I have been to a lot of tournaments, but my favorite tournament was CUUC 2003. This was the first time I had been back to a tournament with the same team that I had been with during the previous year's tournament. We had come 4th in 2002, and then we won it in 2003. It was the first time I had won a tournament since I started playing Ultimate, and it meant so much to accomplish the goal which we had failed to do the previous year. Both of these tournaments I played with UBC.

Overall, my favourite tournament is Canadian Nationals. It is so much fun seeing people from the other side of the country who you only see once a year at this event.

4) What is your favourite memory from playing on the Mixed team at the World Championships in Finland?

MH: I have two favourite memories.

The first was during the warm up for our first game when I got to put on the Team Canada jersey. I had not worn it prior to the tournament, and to be able to put on that uniform with the maple leaf on your chest was such amazing feeling, and filled me with so much pride.

The second was the experience of playing against teams from other countries. During the game, players would be calling out plays and talking in different languages. It was quite a unique experience to not know what they were saying, when you are so use to hearing what the other team is saying and then adjusting to it.

5) If you could develop one aspect of your game, what would it be?

MH: I don't have a specific area of my game that I am trying to develop. Instead, I am working on all aspects of my game. I feel like I would be a much more useful player if all aspects of my game were solid, and as such I try to work on things that will help eliminate my weaknesses. Right now, my main focus is to develop quicker foot speed.

6) Did you feel as though you had "home turf" advantage at CUC 2004 playing with Team Fisher Price?

MH: Yeah, I definitely did. I was extremely confident in the abilities of my teammates. I knew that we had the people to get the job done. We practice on those same fields all year round, and most of us were UBC students. I totally felt like I was playing at home the whole time. The final was just amazing. To see all those people in the stands while we were warming up gave us such an energetic charge. Hearing the crowd cheer for us when we scored was just phenomenal. People who none of us knew kept yelling out our names and cheering us on. I definitely felt like we had everyone behind us, and their support gave us an endless amount of energy and made winning so much sweeter.

7) What types of cross-training do you do?

MH: I do two different plyometrics programs. One is a basketball based-program that works on your vertical leap. The other one is for foot speed and general quickness. I also do a core body workout.

8) Name your ideal starting seven mixed players:

MH: Starting Canadian 7:

Brendan Wong
Derek Knoechel
Paul Chambers
Jeff Yuen
Jen Kwok
Megan O'Brien
Kiersten Stead

9) How do you fly so high in the air? Is it the cleats?

MH: It is most definitely the cleats. The key is to keep your cleats as clean and shiny as possible. The better your cleats look, the more they help you fly.
