Team Allocations and Space

Vancouver has a huge recreational league of Co-ed teams (over 200 are expected this Summer). In fact, during the year more players play more games of Ultimate in Vancouver than anywhere in the World. Nationals 2000 will be the 2nd year that the CO-ED division will be included, and we hope to have this division as well attended and as highly competitive as OPEN and WOMENS. There will be plenty of teams from Vancouver willing to play at Nationals and we are challenging players from the rest of Canada to bring their co-ed league and touring teams to Vancouver this Summer.

At this time, we are looking for the following number of teams in each division:

OPEN: 16 – 20 Teams
WOMENS: 12 – 16 Teams
CO-ED: 10 – 14 Teams
MASTERS: 10 – 12 Teams
JUNIORS: 10 – 12 Teams

These numbers will be determined by demand during the registration period in the Spring of 2000. Regional allocations will be determined by CUPA based on last years Nationals results and posted in the registration section when available.

Trash

Pick up your trash!! Too many ultimate tournaments end and the fields are a sea of garbage. Respect the tournament organizers and volunteers who will be required to clean up after you if you don’t do it yourself. We will assist you as much as possible by having a lot of garbage containers around the fields - but it is up to you to collect your garbage and deposit it in the receptacles. Orange peels, banana skins, bits of bagels and other food are garbage. Sure, they decompose - but it takes a long time. All food items and their peelings are trash and to be disposed of.

Parking

For those players staying in the Place Vanier accommodations on campus, this will not be a problem as the fields are a 5 minute walk from your door. There is plenty of parking around the field site for $6/day. Please note that UBC has been known to get nasty with illegal parkers and send out tow trucks to remove cars at owners expense. Once again, if you want to get the full enjoyment of Nationals without the worry of parking, finding a designated driver or making you games on time, book your rooms at Place Vanier now!

Common Sense

We’ve all heard of the thinning of the ozone layer - and a lot of us have suffered from sunburns after playing tournaments. But the health impacts of excessive exposure to UV-B go beyond just getting burned. Exposure to UV radiation has been linked to many human health problems, including skin cancer, eye damage, wrinkling of the skin and weakening of the immune system. You are encouraged to protect yourself from the sun. Bring your hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and umbrellas.

We will have water at the fields, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t help out our over worked water volunteers. Vancouver is blessed with some of the best drinking water in North America, right out of the tap! Please arrive at the fields in the morning with your water bottles FULL. If everyone does this it will greatly reduce our demand for on field water. Remember, field water is for RE-FILLING, not FILLING your water bottles.

There is an RCMP detachment across the street from the field site and numerous residential condos in the area. Without putting a damper on the good time we know you will all have, please remember that open alcohol on the playing fields is against the law.

Volunteers

Nationals 2000 will have over 200 volunteers helping out to make this tournament the greatest Nationals ever. These people are mostly local players who have dedicated their time and hard work to you. These people deserve your thanks and respect.

If you have a problem with any aspect of the tournament, do not take your frustration out on our volunteers. You can bring your problems to the tournament director or one of the senior organizing committee members. We signed up for the big jobs, and we are responsible for the end product. Any players who are reported to be abusing the volunteers will be swiftly dealt with by being removed from the field, tournament, campus and, if need be, the city.

Rules and Schedule

Prior to the start of Nationals 2000, the final seedings, schedule and rules (foot blocks, etc…) will be posted to all team Captains using e-mail. In some cases we may take an e-mail vote to determine some issues. By the Captains Meeting on July 26th, all these decisions will have been made. The meeting will only be a form for the clarification of rules and schedules. THERE WILL BE NO VOTING AT THE CAPTAINS MEETING.
