Canadian Ultimate Championships
Score Keeping
Games may me monitored by a scorekeeper, but it will be the captains duty to
fill out and submit the completed score-sheets. The scorekeepers/monitors will
have a copy of the rules of ultimate (9th Edition UPA, or 10th edition if approved
by August), but
he/she should not be used to intervene in the event of a disagreement.
Time Keeping
In order to minimize the need for stringent time caps in semis and finals, all
semis and finals will be timed in the
following manner: From the time a point is scored, the new receiving team will
have 70 seconds to signal its readiness
for the next pull. The pulling team will have 90 seconds to pull the disc. Time
keepers will signal
50 seconds, 70 seconds and 90 seconds by means of a visible flag or whistle.
Any timing infringement by a team will
result in that team using one of their time-outs. If an infringing team has
no time outs remaining, or the game has
advanced into a hard cap, the non-infringing team receives possesion of the
disc at the brick mark closest to the
opponent's endzone.
All foul calls and time-outs, in semis and finals will be timed. Time-outs will
be no more than 2 minutes in length.
Half-time will be no more than 5 minutes in length. Any foul call resulting
in a dispute will be timed to 30
seconds, at which point, the disc will return to the thrower on a receiving
foul, or the count will resume as if a foul
was 'contested'.
Pull rules
-The brick mark is 20 yards.
-If the pull is allowed to land (i.e. not caught) it is played as follows:
-If the pull lands out-of-bounds, the receiving team has the option of putting
the disc into play:
at the brick mark; or,
at the point on the playing field proper nearest where the disc went out-of-bounds;
or,
halfway between the two sidelines at the point on the playing field proper nearest
where the disc went out-of-bounds.
-If the pull lands in-bounds, then rolls out-of-bounds, the disc is put into
play at the point on the playing field
proper nearest where the disc went out-of-bounds.
-If the pull lands in-bounds and does not roll out-of-bounds, the disc must
be put into play at the point where the
disc comes to rest. (Note: existing rules allowing players to stop a rolling
disc still apply.)
If the pull is caught, the disc must be put into play at the point on the playing
field nearest where the disc was caught.
If either team is off-sides, the other team may request a re-pull. The request
must be made immediately.
All other rules in the UPA
Rules of Ultimate, 9th Edition, with Amendments and Clarifications not conflicting
with
the above rules are still in effect.
Disclaimer
CUC 2001 will attempt to foster competitive play leading to the eventual determination
of the Canadian Champions. Nevertheless, competitors will be expected to nurture
the ideals of spirited play and behave in a respectable manner at all CUC functions.
SOTG scores (1-5) will be kept for each game in order to determine the Spirit
winners in each division. Prizes will be given to award spirited play. The Technical
Directors of CUC 2001 reserve the right to disqualify any person or team who
does not demonstrate respect for the ideals of SOTG and/or other persons associated
with the tournament. The TD's also reserve the right to disqualify and person
or team who engage in any illegal, dangerous or unbecoming behavior.
Other discussion of the rules can be addressed at the captains meeting on August 15th, 2001.
