FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Will I have to rent a car to get to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
St-Jean is approximately a 45 minute drive from Dorval airport. CUC has arranged a deal with Budget.

2) Why can't I stay in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu on Saturday night?
If you can find hotel accommodations, you are welcome to stay in St-Jean on Saturday night. But the official CUC hotels will be in Montreal on August 16th. St-Jean is about 30 minutes from Montreal, where both the party and the championship games will be taking place.

3) How will I get to the party?
The party is a short walk or cab ride from the Montreal tournament hotels.

4) How will I get home from the party?
The CUC will be renting buses that will escort all party-goers back from the party to the tournament hotels.

5) Why aren't the finals in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
Because the Hot Air Balloon competition takes over the entire town of St-Jean beginning on Saturday, August 16th, the CUC was forced to look elsewhere for finals fields and accommodations. We were fortunate enough to be able to secure the Molson Stadium for the championship games as well as the chalet at the top of Mount Royal for the tournament party on Saturday night.

6) Why are we playing on FieldTurf instead of real grass?
Only the championship games (Open, Mixed, Women's) will be held on Fieldturf, because Sunday's games will be held at the newly redone Molson Stadium. Many stadiums across Canada and the United States have converted their natural grass or astroturf fields to FieldTurf. Teams who qualify for the finals will have an opportunity to practice on FieldTurf on Sunday before their final games. Click here to read what elite level players in each division have to say about playing on FieldTurf and the cleats they like to use.

7) What does the June 15th registration deadline mean?
Any team who is planning to play at regionals in an attempt to secure a spot for nationals, or any team that is planning on coming to nationals, has until June 15th to e-mail a registration form and send a cheque for $600 to CUPA. After this date, a 25% late fee penalty will be added to the cost of CUC for your team. Every team has until July 1 to register for Nationals. After July 1, teams may lose their right to participate at Regionals in qualification for Nationals.

8) How were the wildcards determined?
The wildcards were given to the regions with the most current CUPA members as of December 31st, 2002. Most of the members paid their dues at CUC 2002 or CUUC 2002 (University).

9) Do I have to pay CUPA dues in addition to player fees?
CUPA fees are included in player fees. If you pay your CUPA fees at regionals, you will not be required to pay 15$ at Nationals, so your player fees will be 50$.

10) How do I pay my CUPA dues?
Captains are responsible for collecting CUPA dues from each player and paying for their entire roster on or before the day of Regionals for their region. If regionals are not necessary for your region, CUPA dues must be paid before the first game at Canadian Nationals, 2003. All dues must be paid in cheque form. CUPA does not accept cash.

11) When and where are Regionals?
If there are sufficient spots for all the registered teams in your division, there will be no Regionals. If there is a need for Regionals in your region, they will take place in July on a weekend specified by your regional coordinator.

12) How do I register my team for Regionals?
To register your team for Regionals, you need to a) Get your team registered for CUC (see Q#7) and b) notify your regional representative of your intent to participate at Regionals. (Regionals roster form)
