CUC Roster Clarification

July 20, 2004

Dear Captain,

Thank you for participating in the 2004 Canadian Ultimate Summer Series (CUSS). Through your hard work, dedication and cooperation with CUPA, we have been able to implement an on-line registration system designed to improve competitive Ultimate in Canada.

Kudos go out to those captains who submitted an online roster on time. Although we are still working on the overall database structure, we’ve managed to lay down the administrative framework for the future. A big thank you also goes out to your Regional Coordinators (RC), who were instrumental in implementing the new procedure.

Ideally, the 2004 roster procedure was as follows:

  • Submit roster by June 30th; no changes to roster allowed before regionals.
  • Participate in regional or seeding tournament either the weekend of July 10th/11th or July 17th/18th
  • After regional or seeding tournaments have taken place, changes to submitted rosters allowed (to a maximum of 3 player additions by Aug 5th )

I apologize for not having updated the Tournament Manual to reflect the implementation of CUSS 2004. We will now make clarifications to the roster issues via this email and it will be posted on the CUC and CUPA web sites.

Addendum to “The Road to Nationals” as of July 20th, 2004:

  • Teams rosters will be “un-frozen” as of July 20th, 2004.
  • Captains will have up till July 31st, 2004 to make changes to their rosters.
  • After July 31st, rosters will be frozen.
  • Between July 31st and Aug 5th, any changes in submitted rosters (i.e. The addition of up to 3 players or the removal of players due to an injury or other circumstance) must be made prior to 11:59pm PDT on Aug 5th, 2004. We are no longer accepting changes to rosters on the night before Nationals start. There are no refunds on CUPA fees. (revision of rule 15.3.1)
  • All CUPA fees, balance of player fees, official team rosters due on August 5th, 2004. (25% late penalty)
  • These changes, via email (in writing), must be communicated to your respective RC, who will in turn submit your roster change to the CUPA registrar.
  • Only those listed on your roster, who should be paid current members of CUPA, can participate in Nationals

Please bear in mind the recommended changes for 2005:

  • Open, Mixed and Women’s divisions reduced from 16 to 12 teams each (not set in stone, to be determined).
  • Wildcards will be determined by growth (based on division-specific regional registration and will correspond to CUC of the same year) and strength (similar to the current wildcard allocation based on the previous year’s CUC results)
  • June 30th deadline to submit roster for 2005 CUSS; no changes allowed between that date and the date of regional or seeding tournament
  • Regional or seeding tournament to be held either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July
  • After regional or seeding tournament has taken place, only a maximum of 3 additions can be made to the CUSS roster two weeks before Nationals; changes are communicated via the RC
  • CUPA will oversee all logistical aspects of CUC
  • the results of the 2005 CUC will be most likely used (to be confirmed) for qualification to the 2006 WUCC in Perth, Australia

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Together we’ve made many steps to reform the competitive Ultimate scene in Canada for the better.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Kieran McConnell, the Championship Series Director, at . Good luck at Regionals and Nationals. See you in Vancouver!
