Canadian Ultimate Summer Series (CUSS)

Reminder - The roster deadline for Regionals is June 30th, 2004.

CUPA is proud to unveil the revamped competitive season structure, Canadian Ultimate Summer Series (CUSS) for 2004 and 2005. This initiative is designed to accommodate growth in the Canadian competitive scene, encourage participation at regional tournaments, and foster a positive perception of the qualifying and championship tournament (CUC) as the premier events of the season.

Changes that will be implemented in 2004:

  • Teams must qualify via a regional tournament in order to participate in Nationals.
  • All players must be current CUPA members in good standing to participate in a regional tournament.
  • All teams (including those that may be exempt* from participating at regionals) must meet all roster and payment deadlines on or before regionals, as required.
  • Regional tournaments must take place at least one month before the scheduled date of Nationals.
  • Under the direction of the National Championship Director, a volunteer CUSS team, comprised of National Divisional Coordinators and Regional Coordinators, will coordinate the competition aspects of both Regional and National tournaments.
  • CUC Tournament manual will be updated to reflect these changes.

Recommended changes for 2005:

  • Open, Mixed and Women’s divisions reduced from 16 to 12 teams each.
  • Growth wildcards will be determined based on division-specific regional registration and will correspond to CUC of the same year.
  • CUPA will oversee all logistical aspects of CUC

Steps to participate in CUSS:

  1. Team A decides they want to compete at Regionals, in a bid for a spot at Nationals.
  2. Team A captain contacts their Regional Coordinator (RC).
  3. RC adds Team A captain to his/her contact list in the CUPA database.
  4. Team A captain logs into CUPA site and registers as member and captain of Team A and pays membership fees.
  5. Team A captain sends e-mail to all team members requesting they login and register as CUPA members (paying membership fees online).
  6. Team A captain gets approval to build team from RC/database manager. Team A captain accesses database and selects team members for online roster.
  7. RC can verify all team rosters (members paid, waiver signed) on/before the roster deadline. Rosters are final.
  8. Team A pays regional tournament fee. Late penalties can be applied at the discretion of the RC.
  9. Team A qualifies to participate in Nationals.
  10. Team A pays the National tournament fee. Late penalties can be applied at the discretion of CUPA.
  11. Team A participates in CUC.

2004 Timeline:

  • Regionals Roster Deadline – June 30
  • Regionals - July 10/11 or July 17 – 18
  • Nationals – Aug 19-22
