***Click here read a summary of what happened at their event.***

Ultimate Pickup at Home Base (CUPA-VC Ultimate Junior Innovation Grant)

Home Base is a not-for-profit drop in centre for at-risk youth. Currently over 400 youth visit the centre per month, and these numbers will swell during the summer. Youth are provided access to food, shelter, clothing, counseling, employment resources, homework support, and recreational activities. Ultimate is the perfect sport to help teach competition, respect and fair play to these junior-aged potential players, and will provide a safe, healthy, and legal activity for fun. Once a week, Home Base will sponsor a skills clinic followed by a pickup game. Participating youth will be provided with food and water during the game, and sport clothing will also made available to those in need.

Halifax Ultimate Camp for Kids (H.U.C.K)

The Halifax Ultimate Camp for Kids (H.U.C.K) program will introduce the sport of Ultimate, and all of the good things that come along with it, to youth in Halifax. It is our hope that over the coming years, this program will grow into a competitive junior Ultimate club and that this club will be able to represent Halifax at the regional, provincial and national levels. The main goal of the program however will always be to encourage youth to play Ultimate in Halifax and to promote the spirit of the game.

Saskatchewan Ultimate Junior Program

The introduction of a junior program to Saskatoon marks a momentous step for the Saskatoon Ultimate Disc Sport Society (SUDS) that is striving to grow and provide a high quality Ultimate experience for all who participate. The junior league will help facilitate further growth of our rapidly expanding league, and foster Ultimate in our city’s youth. The program is also designed to help align Saskatoon with Canada’s major centers upon the creation of competitive junior teams. The region is showing tremendous potential for nurturing quality Ultimate players, and this step will allow for Saskatoon to advance Ultimate beyond its current potential. SUDS is grateful for the cooperation of CUPA and VC Ultimate, and looks forward to passing on the spirit and sport of Ultimate to Saskatoon’s youth.

Eagles and Doves Ultimate Tournament

The first annual Eagles and Doves Ultimate Tournament for Aboriginal youth will be launched on August 13 and 14, the same weekend as the Canadian Ultimate Championships in Winnipeg. There will be a hat tournament on Saturday and on Sunday participants will together watch exciting world caliber Ultimate at the Canadian Championship finals with hundreds of other Ultimate players and spectators.

This tournament will build upon the spirit and legacy left by the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) hosted by Winnipeg in 2002 that included 5500 athletes. The mission statement of the NAIG is "To improve the quality of life for Indigenous peoples by supporting self-determined sports and cultural activities which encourage equal access to participation in the social/cultural fabric of the community they reside in and which respects Indigenous distinctiveness."

Many of the participants in the Eagles and Doves tournament will have been introduced to Ultimate this year through various regional clinics graciously co-organized and/or partially funded by Sport Manitoba, the Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports, Anishinaabe Mino-Ayaawin Health and the Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council. It is hoped that the success of the Eagles and Doves tournament and future intiatives by other provinces to introduce Ultimate to more Aboriginal youth may lead to Ultimate's demonstration sport status at the 2006 NAIG in Denver, Colorado and competition sport status at the 2008 NAIG in Cowichan, BC!
